From an early age, Peter Docis was taught that helping those less fortunate in his community was the highest calling. He was born and raised in Northwest Ohio, and began his lifelong career in the transportation and logistics industry while in college working for United Parcel Service. Throughout his professional life he has never lost sight of his strongly-held belief that with great personal success comes great moral responsibility. Whether he was transporting frozen holiday turkeys in his UPS truck to the local food shelter or directing emergency bottled water deliveries with the Pepsi Corporation to New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, Peter has always held that a higher standard should be expected from those who have benefitted from fulfilling the American dream.
Having achieved success in the United States, Peter now wants to help the impoverished children in his adopted country the Philippines. By partnering with Violi Wong and the Asia-USA Foundation, Peter believes that we can make a difference in the lives of children born into crushing poverty who seemingly have no way to escape to a better life. “Making the impossible possible” is not just a motto for Peter Docis and the Asia-USA Foundation, it is a promise to the children of the Philippines.
As a young boy, Eric Wong has demonstrated a strong eagerness to help other people. Whether it was for family, friends, or even complete strangers, Eric has a strong desire to make the lives of others easier. “I really enjoy helping people overcome their struggles”, Eric says, “It helps people to become successful and builds stronger relationships in the process.”
Eric began to discover this passion for helping others in his experience in high school. He struggled through his first two years in high school, but made it through with outstanding grades. As an upperclassman, he participated in Calculus Club and College Club, where he gave aid to struggling freshmen and sophomores in math subjects and college preparation. This propelled him to seek more opportunities to find people who were in need of help both inside and outside of school. Eric also enjoyed running for the La Mirada cross country and track teams, and served as Boys Varsity Team Captain in both his junior and senior years.
After discovering his true passion in life, Eric has decided to expand his circle of aid by aspiring to become a doctor. He is currently finishing his senior year at La Mirada High School and is college bound to the University of California Los Angeles. Once in college, Eric plans to major in Molecular biology and continue on into medical school where he will become a certified doctor.

Recently, Eric has had the opportunity to visit his origin country, the Philippines. For being his first time out of the United States, he was shocked to see kids walking around with no shoes and rural areas without electricity. As a result, Eric has taken up a new endeavor to give opportunities to children in need of help. Eric firmly believes that with the help of as many people as possible, the Asia-USA Foundation can change lives for the better and give kids the opportunities and future they deserve.

Formerly with UNiCEF for three decades plus, Ms Glasgow was responsible for highlighting and integrating the participation and involvement of communities at the village/local level in UNICEF-assisted drinking water, hygiene and sanitation programmes in various countries. She concentrated on the health and education aspects of communicating with villagers and project workers to bring about the behavioural changes necessary in using water and sanitation facilities. The main thrust was to design, develop, implement strategies at field level, based on local participation, to influence UNICEF policies at national and international levels.
One of her most important conclusions and mantras is the importance of building and sustaining relationships at all levels, horizontally and vertically, if anything was to be accomplished in a lasting way. Unless relations are developed, it is usually extremely difficult to speak of sustainable activities from the bottom up the chain of command.
She developed a Community Participatory Audit for projects and programmes. The Audit is also a tool for project staff and governments to monitor and evaluate the extent of community involvement and community ownership in the project or programme. Ms Glasgow worked very closely with communities and local government staff and workers, as she travelled across the globe appreciating at first hand their culture, daily workloads, livelihoods and lifestyles and the impact of these on the socioeconomic conditions of families.
Using her experience at community/village, Ms Glasgow has been invited to sit on Boards of many NGOs to help keep their focus and their attention to community involvement at the outset of project planning and design, to ensure that there is community ownership throughout implementation and hand-over.
Ms Glasgow envisions the role technology can play, if addressed correctly, in propelling communities out of their immediate and challenging situations and empowering them to work up and out of poverty. She produces internet radio shows Muriella's Corner, http://www.blogtalkradio.com/muriellas-corner by featuring people who are changing narratives on issues of concern each month. She also produces
podcasts on the Yakkers' Corner, http://www.unitednationsyak.com , interviewing people involved in socio-economic and humanitarian development who are committed to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations, people who are dedicated to reaching the bottom billions and helping restore their dignity by improving their lives and livelihoods.
She is now promoting the creation and establishment of ICUs - Innovation and Creativity Units at Village so that children around the world can tap into their innate creativity and play. The ICUs would help children to explore their surroundings, equipped with play tools like telescopes, stethoscopes, iPads, laptop computers (e.g. One Laptop Per Child), with the guidance and encouragement of incubators in the different Science and Technology Schools across the world. This is one way in which international narratives on Global Issues might be interpreted and worked on at local level, providing input from that level to the international level in the global discourse on issues like climate change, deforestation, etc.
Ms Glasgow is an Ambassador of Peace and a United Nations mentor; President, Idea Generator, MG Associates, Inc; Producer, United Nations Yak
